FAQs – Egg Cottage | Vacation Rental in Door County, WI

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

2020 will be different and information may change on a daily basis, so please check in advance for opening times and other relevant info.  But Door County is still Door County and there’s plenty of opportunity for having a great time relaxing and exploring the beauty.

  • On July 23, Door County Public Health issued an “Emergency Advisory Requiring Face Coverings”. Full advisory here.  Essentially, it asks that masks be worn indoors when not drinking or eating.
  • Things are rapidly changing here as the summer progresses.  Most restaurants are now offering socially-distanced table service and/or patio service, almost all shops are open, golf is in full swing, all parks are open, etc. It’s pretty much back to business with the (rather large) emphasis on safe behavior. You may want to pack a mask this year as many shops and galleries are asking visitors to wear them.
  • We’ve added 2020 Covid-related updates to our Best Date Night Spots, Best Casual Dining and Four Classic Fish Boils guides, highlighting what’s open, who’s offering table service, socially distanced seating, and more.
  • In Egg Harbor, Shipwrecked, One Barrel Brewing/Wild Pizza Works, Casey’s, Fireside and Hatch Distillery are all offering Safe Social Distancing indoor table service and/or patio service.
  • 2020 stands out as a year where there’s so much wonderful gourmet food now offered for takeaway (Trixie’s, Wickman House, Parador, Fireside, etc.) Take advantage and enjoy some of Door County’s finest dining while luxuriating in breathtaking backyard sunsets in the screened gazebo dining area at Egg Cottage.
  • Additionally, the Door County Chamber put together this useful Welcome Back Guide for visitors: Welcome Back Digital Letter

Cleanliness has always been a top priority for us at Egg Cottage.  So this year, in light of Covid-19 we’re participating in local health initiatives for safe opening and operations and are staying abreast of CDC guidelines. For example, we’re cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces (light switches, doorknobs, cabinet handles, remotes, etc.) before guests check in.

When you book you have the option of purchasing travel insurance (this has become quite popular).  During booking/checkout you will have the opportunity to more closely review the policies before final policy purchase. You can choose from two options:

  1. Standard Travel Insurance – Protects your vacation up to 100% for covered reasons like illness, injury, natural disasters, delays and more. (Read more)
  2. Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Travel Insurance – Protects your vacation up to 100% for covered reasons like illness, injury, natural disasters, travel delays and more. You can also cancel for a reason not listed in the policy and be eligible for a 60% reimbursement. Only available to US residents (excluding NH, NY and WA state residents). (Read more)

In the face of these unprecedented times, we’re modifying our regular cancellation policies for 2020.

  • Our normal cancellation policy is “100% refunds (minus a $60 administrative fee) for cancellations made 60 days prior to arrival”.  During this time, we are shortening that cancellation window to 31 days.
  • Also, normally, moving an existing reservation to a future date is considered a cancellation. During this time, we are offering to move reservations back without any fee (avoiding the $60 cancellation fee.)  As above, we require this move occur a minimum of 31 days before your original check in. That means, if you’d like to push your 2020 reservation back there wouldn’t be a $60 cancellation fee.   If you choose this option and then still want to cancel, this moved reservation could also be cancelled in 2020 up to 31 days prior to the new moved check in (minus the $60 administrative fee).
  • The final option is moving your existing 2020 reservation to 2021. This would also avoid the $60 cancellation fee and your rate would be locked in at the 2020 rate.  Again, we require this move occur a minimum of 31 days before your original check in. If you choose this option and then still want to cancel in 2021, the standard 60-day cancellation window would apply to the 2021 reservation (assuming Covid is no longer in the equation).
  • All other standard cancellation policies apply.

We have a very standard cancellation policy. To make this policy fair to everyone, please know that we will enforce this exact policy in all situations with no exceptions.

  • We give 100% refunds (minus a $60 administrative fee) for cancellations made 60 days prior to arrival.
  • A Cancellation or early departure made within 59 days of arrival does not warrant any refund of rent or deposit.  When/if fully re-booked, 90% of the rental amount, cleaning fee, and sales tax already paid will be refunded. If we are not able to rebook the period that you booked, there would be no refund provided.
  • Cancellation request must be written (email with confirmed response is fine).
  • Moving an existing reservation to a future date is considered a cancellation.
  • There are no refunds for bad weather, snow, no-shows, late arrival or early departure.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have questions, please contact us and we will get back to you within 2 business days, but usually much sooner.

Close and Lock windows and doors. Close window blinds.

When we’re at the cottage, a walk down to the Egg Harbor beach is part of our everyday experience.  It’s a gorgeous sand beach and is under a mile away.  For us, it’s about a 15 minute walk. Here’s a link to a map showing the way from Egg Cottage to the Beach.
