It’s trendy Roman Style pizza served to go or ordered at the self-serve window for dining in. It’s a 9 minute walk from Egg Cottage and is a popular spot to sip and munch on the outdoor patio. ONTO THE WILD TOMATO PIZZA REVIEW: Famous for their delicious wood-fired Pizza, this is Door County’s go-to most-loved rave-reviewed pizza place (with two locations – Fish Creek and Sister Bay). Along with traditional options, they also feature a monthly Donation Creation – a kitchen staff medley of inspired flavor combinations.
With an impressive culinary career history, owner Britton was once head baker for Wolfgang Puck in San Francisco before he opened Wild Tomato. The resulting pizza crusts and breads are proof of their pedigree. Homemade is also the thing here, using fresh, organic and local ingredients when possible. It’s not just the pizzas that please, try the salads with their from-scratch dressings for something lighter or if you’re not feeling pizza. It’s all good, quality fare.
INSIDER TIP #1: The Donation Creation pizza changes monthly. ($1 from each pie goes to a revolving local charity.) It’s a staff collaboration and we’ve always enjoyed the typically unusual and inventive fusion of flavors. If you’re a lover of food, and open to new taste sensations, give it a try. We’ve never been disappointed.
INSIDER TIP #2: The bread basket is an absolute terrific, wonderfully ridiculous, explosion of sumptuous carbs in various forms of crispy chewy bliss (served with three homemade dipping sauces). It’s also huge. Take the leftovers back to Egg Cottage for a second “meal”.
